Hearing Panel
The panel members who consider the evidence and make a decision at hearing before the Tribunal dealing with Criminal Injuries Compensation. At least 2 and usually 3 panel members sit on a hearing panel.
Senior Decision Maker
The representative of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority who attends the appeal hearing in Criminal Injuries Compensation cases.
Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme (The Scheme)
The rules, agreed by Parliament, which set out when a victim of violent crime is eligible for compensation from the government and the amount which will be paid. It also sets out how the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority and the Tribunals Service deal with claims for compensation under the Scheme.
Tribunal Member or Tribunal Judge
A person appointed to decide appeals before the Tribunal in Criminal Injuries Compensation appeals. May also be called an Adjudicator.
