Case law

These pages contain important court judgements in Judicial Review cases relating to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Schemes. A judgement is the official record of the court hearing giving the decision and the reasons for it. The Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel and the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority must take account of any relevant Judicial Review decisions when they decide claims under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.

The judgements are set out under three headings – Eligibility, Assessment and Procedure

Each judgement is introduced by a short paragraph explaining the issues, the relevant paragraphs of the Scheme and a reference to the law reports in which the full judgement is reported. This is to help you identify any judgements relevant to the facts of your case. It does not form part of the judgement. The main body of the judgement is an official document and uses legal language. We cannot change this.
